The Story of
Edman Saffron

Gholamreza Miri, the founder of Edman Agricultural & Export Company, entered the saffron business in 1968 under the trade name “Reza Saffron”, drawing upon his family’s agricultural heritage and the indigenous potential of his hometown.

For the first time in Iran, in an innovative move with a strong commitment to protecting consumer health, he introduced saffron to the market in pre-weighed retail packages. Before that, saffron was sold in bulk, and after customers requested the desired quantity, it was wrapped in newspapers or unhygienic paper and cardboard materials.

This innovative approach led to the growth of the business and established the reputation of Reza Saffron, which continued to achieve success in both domestic and international markets for the next 26 years, until 1995. As a result of this success, and with the aim of expanding its operations based on modern quality and management standards, Reza Saffron was reorganized in 1995 and officially renamed Edman Agricultural & Export Company.

Reza Saffron had been founded on a progressive philosophy that prioritized product quality and consumer safety. For this reason, the name “Edman,” meaning continuous, ongoing, and persistent, was chosen for the newly established company to reflect the continuity of its values and the reputation it had built over the previous 26 years.

Accordingly, on January 8, 1996 (18 Dey 1374), backed by the founder’s many years of experience in the saffron industry, as well as the agricultural and human potential of the region, Reza Saffron officially continued its activities under the trade name Edman Saffron.

The founder’s dedication to providing the highest-quality and healthiest products also continued under the company’s new organizational structure. Therefore, although obtaining the Iranian National Standard certification for saffron was not mandatory at the time, Edman Agricultural & Export Company, as one of the pioneers in receiving this certification in Iran, successfully obtained the Iranian National Standard Mark in 1996 (1375).

The following year, in 1998 (1377), to ensure the safety and quality of its products, the company established Iran’s first nationally accredited specialized laboratory dedicated to saffron.
